Na Pali Coast Cruises
On the northwest side of Kauai is the (approximately) 15 mile long Na Pali Coast. This is a rugged, scenic part of the island with tall cliffs that descend directly to the sea. Much of it is accessible only by boat. Whether you choose to sail, raft, kayak, or cruise the Na Pali coastline, it is an area you’ll want to visit, especially if you are visiting Hawaii during summer months. Seas are calmest at that time, although Na Pali boating companies run year-round.
Boat tours are the most casual way to visit this impressive coastline. A boat tour will take you past the cliffs to sea caves, lava tubes and waterfalls. Perhaps the cruise you select will include snorkeling in Na Pali’s crystal clear waters. During your voyage expect to see marine life such as dolphins, turtles and monk seals. If you visit during January through April, whale sightings are common.
You won’t go hungry on your cruise. If a daytime cruise interests you, many include continental breakfasts and hearty lunches. Imagine enjoying a romantic dinner cruise as dolphins surf along side, or flying fish frolic nearby.
One captivating boat tour for vacationers interested in the history and archeology of Kauai is Captain Andy’s Na Pali Day Expedition to the ancient fishing village of Nu`alolo Kai. Captain Andy’s is licensed to provide tours to this fragile area that’s only accessible by boat. www.napali.com
Departing from the village of Eleele (a short, 30 minute drive west from our Kiahuna Plantation condo) Holo Holo Charters provides catamaran trips to Na Pali via cruise options that take only a few hours to an entire day. www.holoholokauaiboattours.com
Another, truly luxurious, option for visiting the Na Pali Coast is to reserve Captain Andy’s new, 65’ catamaran for a private tour. If your vacation includes a large wedding, reunion or simply, a need to escape in privacy for a day, this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy Na Pali with a personal itinerary designed just for you or your group. www.sskauai.com
If you plan to kayak Na Pali, note that you’ll be permitted to enjoy beach access at only 2 areas along the coast.
Depending on the tour you choose, consider bringing hiking shoes, hat, camera, swim suit, insect repellent and your favorite brand of sunscreen. Everything else is provided by your charter company.
If you only have time to visit one golf locale on Kauai, we believe that the Poipu area with it's three beautiful courses is simply perfect.
