Hanalei Valley is pictured below. The Hanalei area is located on the northern side of Kauai. The river in the photo, taken from a pull-out on Hwy 560, is the Hanalei River. Water from the river is essential to the taro grown on the valley floor. The region produces the bulk of taro for the Hawaiian Islands. There is also a National Wildlife Refuge located in the valley.
