The Kipu Waterfalls is a 22-foot falls over lava cliffs on the East side of Kauai. The drive from Poipu only takes 20 minutes. From Poipu you should go towards Lihue and near mile market #3 on Hwy 50 (Kaumualii Hwy.) take a right on Kipu Rd. Stay right at the fork in the road and stop just before the bridge spanning Huleia Stream. * See Map to Kipu Falls

Park your vehicle and head south (downstream) on the trail, which can be a bit overgrown considering the nature of the vegetation that grows on the Garden Isle of Kauai. The short walk takes about five minutes to complete. You can continue on to the end if you are looking for photograph opportunities. If that is the case, take the short trail down to the opposing end of the falls after reaching a fence that marks the edge of Kipu Ranch. It may be a little slippery so be careful.

Do not be surprised if there are others there when you arrive. The area is a popular swimming hole and dive/jump location for locals and tourists. The stream is large enough for everyone to take part. There is also a rope swing or two hanging from the trees that provide shade to the falls area. Wear foot protection if you are going to enjoy a swim in the stream.
